Days 7, 8, 9

The last few days have been interesting to say the least. Our hard sailing has paid dividends allowing us to climb the leaderboard, but conditions remain tough out here as the winds have lightened substantially and wind remains tricky.

We have also faced a couple of issues with our water maker and power supply. These have hopefully been rectified but it has not been easy.  Even though the water maker was a faulty switch that was soon after replaced, any issues until resolved plays hard with ones emotions. Especially those like water supply when you are in the middle of the Atlantic.

Today has been specifically frustrating. The lack of wind has seen us set out north again. While we think that we have lost out big time today to competitors, only tomorrow mornings position update will tell. We have just earlier (8pm SA time) settled into a slight bit of breeze, so hopefully will be able to capitalise on this overnight.

For those interested, Dad is chatting to Kobus on RSG again tomorrow at 07h30. Been battling with phone signal so hold thumbs he gets through.

More tomorrow...

  1. Hi, we been waiting days for another blog and then we only get such a short one. Boo Hoo. Glad you seem to have fixed your water maker, I that doesnot die send the brothers and counsin to do a rain dance in those bright pink, oh sorry red speedo's, then stand back and wait with the buckets.
Please let me know if you have managed to actually catch a fish, (fish that commit suicideby landing on deck do not count(although eating them will be quite acceptable. cook them well to make sure you do not absorbe those dump genes.all the best. keith

  2. You had us worried for a moment there with no posts. We are glad that you seem to have everything under control now. I am sure that the cash injector was getting bored and had to put his great engineering skills to the test. It takes more than great hugs to cross the Atlantic, Mike!
Kax, we are really enjoying your blogs so try not to keep us in suspense.
As a last resource, you can devise a way to charge the batteries from all the adrenaline the boys are running on.
    How is Mum handling it?
I don't think your handicap took into account the number of SA sailing champions onboard. It is great seeing you near the top of the leader board. Keep up the good work.
    Love & hugs Teresa

  6. Yeah from lengthy detailed daily reports to an abbreviated 3 day summary? Relieved that it was not a result of something serious, (not that fresh water aint important)I'm sure the physical demands are taking toll and perhaps the initial euphoria is tapering. Is vasbyt the ususal word du jour? Appears you have tons of supporters and everyone is so impressed and proud of your performance.
Thoughts and prayers with you and an angel on your pulpit.

  7. How are the rest of you arm chair sailors keeping up-to-date with the Cape2Rio? I log-in for an update at least 4 times a day, tune in to RSG for live updates (had to google them to find the frequency) and even understood the report. It must have been Mike's friendly accent. I have not found any DSTV coverage and the great updates from THE TEAM are not quenching the thirst for more details. Can anyone help.
